There are three major categories that can be searched for within a government directory and those are:
overall government agencies
departments dealing with a specific subject and
individuals.
These listings provide you with the landline numbers for these various types of phones, and sometimes can offer a employee's cell phone number (if they choose to provide it).
As of yet, there isn’t a "master" government cell phone directory available on the internet and there aren’t any plans to create one... but some civil servants select to publish their cell phone nubmers... and since the US govenment employs such a huge percentage of US citizens... that's a LOT of cell numbers!
This means you can often find number to reach offices for elected officials such as the president, governors, senators, representatives, and state legislatures. Furthermore, there is a congressional directory that may not provide you with cell phone lookup options, but they can lead you to the landline where you can ask for the mobile number you require.
Of course, these numbers are just the official work numbers that are used by officials for official government work. Personal numbers are 100% confidential and can never be found online for any reason!
Most listings are organized by agency, such as contact links or federal employee directories. This allows you to narrow your search much further as long as you are aware of the department or agency in which the individual employee works.
There are also more specific forms of non-cell phone directory available, such as locators for military personnel or citizens overseas. All of these make it much more simple to find the right individuals without having too much information available. Even if a cell phone lookup isn’t available, there are so many landline options that you’ll be able to track down the right person and simply ask them for their mobile number if you need it.
The government has made every effort aside from a cell phone directory in order to help people to be able to contact the right individuals to answer their questions, hear their concerns, or share information in other ways while ensuring that privacy is protected, and yet easy access is granted to individuals wishing to speak to someone in their government.
