Performing a reverse phone number search for a number in a country other than the one you are in can be difficult. The laws and regulations governing access to this type of information can be very different from country to country. However, it is possible to find out who owns a number, or at least where the number is located, with many free searches. Just as in a regular reverse lookup in America, numbers must be accessible to the public and listed in a public directory for the search engines of these directories to find them.
Many general service and search sites will give you the information you need, especially if the number belongs to a company. On sites the major search engines, you can put the phone number into the search box and, if the number is posted on any websites, the search engines might find it. A lot of these types of sites may also have versions of their pages that are local to the country you are searching for. They may show up in the native language, though, so if you don’t speak the language, this may not help.
Another popular site for reverse number lookups is www.AnyWho.com. This site is sponsored by AT&T and provides a lot of information. They even have an international directory that provides links to phone directories in many other countries. Again, many of these international sites may have access to their own reverse searches, but the site is probably going to be in the language native to the country. Unless there is a version in your language, you speak the native tongue, or can muddle through the directory without knowing the language, these directories may not help.
A very good resource for deciphering international calls is www.countrycodes.com. They can provide country codes and dialing instructions for calling across country lines. They also provide a free country code reverse lookup. In other words, you can put in a country code, and it will tell you in what country the call originated. This can certainly help you narrow your search for the owner of a number.
There are a few items to keep in mind when you are performing any reverse telephone number lookup. If you are looking for a cell phone owner, this information may be available, but probably not for free. There are also pay sites for land based phones, but these sites typically provide a lot more information than just a name and address. Any information found on a free site may be out of date. If you are unsure of the information you are getting from one site, check it against another. They each may pull their information from different locations.
